Peter Wilson retired from the Australian Public Service and the Australian Taxation Office in 2003 after nearly 39 years of service.

Since 1985 he had worked in senior management roles at the Assistant Commissioner, Senior Assistant Commissioner and First Assistant Commissioner levels.  He was a primary driver of the ATO’s IT directions for more than 18 years and in recent years drove its Business  Technology direction.  He also contributed significantly to whole of government Business Technology directions.

Peter over sighted all of  ATO IT purchasing and infrastructure enhancements for more that 13 years.  His considerable international experience saw him working with  many of the world’s revenue authorities and computing corporations.  He has served on senior executive advisory committees at 3COM, IBM, FileNet and Microsoft.

Peter is sought after to speak at conferences on a wide variety of Information Technology topics and is known for the strong business focus he brings to his presentations. As well as Australia, countries Peter has presented in include the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.  In the mid 1990’s he worked with the OECD in Europe.

His final position at the ATO saw him heading up the ATO’s Technology Division and working as a member of the ATO’s senior leadership team.  At the 2003 Australian IT & T Awards Peter was admitted into the IT Hall of Fame.
